The Yak-40 is the world’s first three-engine regional jet passenger airplane for airlines with a range up to 1,500 km. The airplane was developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau (Soviet Union) in 1964. The first flight was made on October 21, 1966. Cruising speed is 510 km/h. Yak-40 was the first airplane produced in the USSR which obtained airworthiness certificate in West European countries. Production of Yak-40 continued from 1966 to 1981, a total of 1012 aircraft were produced, of these 125 worldwide exported.
